The Global Thought Leadership Conference of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) was held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Dr Davaasuren Sodnomdarjaa - Chair of the FRC and member of AFI’s Board of Directors - chaired the Reshaping the Future for Financial Inclusion session. This high-level participation of Dr Davaasuren Sodnomdarjaa was a sign the FRC’s active engagement within the AFI.

The Global Conference discussed the most effective policies to reach the remaining 1.7 billion unbanked adults globally, and policy approaches needed to narrow the gender gap in financial inclusion. In addition, ways that policymakers might realize the potential of innovative technology, to achieve full financial inclusion, were addressed. Over 180 representatives from AFI member institutions - including central banks, international organizations, and private sectors - were gathered in the Conference.

Financial inclusion is a powerful catalyst for development, fostering participation of the vulnerable in society and improving the welfare of the country. Thus, it is important for the country’s economic development and financial stability.
