The FRC delegation led by Chairman Dr. Davaasuren Sodnomdarjaa paid an official visit to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) on 12 October 2017 in Sydney. The ASIC participates in a number of important international regulatory forums including the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and is a signatory to international cooperation agreements including the IOSCO Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding and numerous bilateral memoranda of understanding.

The ASIC’s officials led by Commissioner Ms. Cathie Armour, Mr. Oliver Harvey, Senior Executive Leader of Financial Markets Infrastructure, Mr. Philip Charlton, Head of International Strategy, and Mr. Greg Yanco, Senior Executive Leader of Markets and Participants Supervision met with the FRC delegates. The authorities discussed the opportunities for prospective cooperation within the frameworks of both IOSCO Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding and bilateral form of technical cooperation, where its scope of areas may range from strengthening the secondary market and enhancing the FRC’s capacity in market regulation and surveillance to improving professional capabilities of the financial institutions the FRC supervises towards fostering Mongolia’s capital market development and building institutional capacity. 

Dr. Davaasuren Sodnomdarjaa visited the Australia’s Treasury and met with Mr. Warren Tease, Head of Macroeconomic Conditions Division. The FRC officials - Mr. Enkhbaatar Vorshilov, Director of Foreign Relations and Cooperation Department and Ms. Ariunaa Byambajav, Director of Supervision Department also attended the meeting during which parties exchanged views on the current macroeconomic conditions, the impact of capital market and mining sector on the economy, and tax and royalty imposed on natural resources exploitation.
